   The goals of the non governmental organization the Association of pharmacists, Ecologists and Producers of Medicinal Plants - Institute of Medicinal Plants  are support of development of infrastructure  medicinal, ethereal and   other crops manufacture and export, creation by this way working places, conservation wild medicinal plants, support to reforms into pharmacy and formation of civilized market relationship, popularization modern medicines and their usage among medical professionals, inculcation electronic means of information exchange.

 Association of pharmacists, Ecologists and Producers of Medicinal Plants - Institute of Medicinal Plants was found in 1994. There was stood out that the best way of protection of growing in nature medicinal plants is their cultivation in farms. Cultivated plants have the better quality and are cheaper than wild harvested. In consequence of that they successfully force obtained in nature medical plants out from market. In 1998 within the framework of the Eurasia Foundation grant resources  of production of medical plants in mini-farms were studied and the organization transformed into the republic association with the present name. In 2000 the organization carried out the grant program supported by the Eurasia Foundation: "Support to development of infrastructure of medical plants' production in Georgia"  with the consultative support from ACDI / VOCA and BESO. Within the framework of the named program:
- Were studied system problems of development of infrastructure of production of medical and ethereal-oily some industrial crops in farms; was prepared  the basis for the state program of developing of the branch, successfully was carried out the formation of public opinion;
- Were prepared technological methodical instructions for up to100 species aimed for farmers producing medicinal plants;
- Was created centre of marketing investigations.
The organization has established close contacts with the Plant Science Department of Oxford University and intends to implement joint project with this group (First stage of this project has been supported by the British Council).
Also the organization works toward maintaining of cultural heritage (traditional and folk medicine).
Financial support  is provided by donors and members' contribution.

The Institute of Medicinal Plants with initiative of its leader Mrs. Lali Dateshidze has carried out  extensive work to create Georgian common medical terminology. At the present it is prepared first version of this terminology with 30 000 terms and termonological expressions. Deponent of the work is available at Techinform. 

Institute of Medicinal Plants has prepared the bibliographic directory of medicinal proceedings of Georgian scientists. The goal of the directory is promotion of Georgian medical achievements and scientists among  foreigners and new generations.

Institute of Medicinal Plants has assumed the role of leader in creation of Georgian Electronic Medical Encyclopedia. Although completation of the Encyclopedia requires long time and it is likely to last this process several years.

The organization collaborates with other NGOs and welcomes any suggestion and collaboration in future. In the scope of the organization there is function the club of teenagers (leader Mari Gudjabidze).
